A Note from Scott McAvoy
Dear Families, Friends, and Supporters: On behalf of our entire campus, we hope this finds you enjoying a great holiday season. As I complete my second decade with Marbridge and my first year as President/CEO, I have the opportunity to help make our platinum 70th Anniversary our very best.
HistoryI’ve looked through pictures showing the last seventy-years reflecting a history that didn’t just change the way adults with cognitive and intellectual disabilities thrived outside of institutional care in Texas, but also set the bar high for the entire nation. I’m incredibly proud to help lead the way for our premiere campus through innovation and define a successful future. Marbridge has grown from serving 12 young men at “The Marbridge Ranch” in the 1950s to serving 275 adults within three care communities. The Bridges employed five ranch hands in the early days, whereas now we employ almost 300 employees to ensure the safety, well-being, and happiness of one of our community’s most vulnerable populations.
Being only one of a very small handful of facilities throughout the entire nation who can provide care from young adulthood through end-of-life has come at a cost, but one that we are proud to embrace. We need your help, commitment, and partnership to ensure that we remain sustainable and continue our commitment for the best programs, resources, and services.
Join UsDuring this Holiday Season, I ask you to join me, the rest of my senior leadership team, and our Board of Trustees to ensure our mission remains viable for another 70 years. Our campus didn’t just receive increased expenses during the pandemic, but products, services, and salaries have increased exponentially over the last two years as well. As an example, salaries, wages, and benefits have increased by 20% over the last 24-months alone.
Part of our gap is serving our most medically fragile residents within our five-star licensed skilled nursing facility, The Villa. This facility is one of our greatest assets, but with Medicaid reimbursing at only an annual average of 66%, it runs at a deficit of about $2MM annually. Most residents at the nursing facility don’t have secondary alternatives that specifically address a population with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We want your donations to go where you are passionate, so this year, I ask you to consider giving to the operating support of one of our three care communities (Village, Ranch, or Villa), general operations, help those who have outlived their financial or family support through Benevolent Care, or join Miracle Society. Our mission is reliant on greater community assistance. Thank you for your generosity and support. I welcome the opportunity to visit and answer any questions regarding our finances, needed donations, or anything about our programs and services. On behalf of our Board of Trustees, team members, and residents, we wish you a happy and blessed holiday season.
Happy Holidays!
Kind regards, Scott McAvoyPresident/CEO
