The Creed Ford III Therapeutic Riding Ranch
In May 2023, Marbridge officially opened the Creed Ford III Therapeutic Riding Ranch at Marbridge. The new equine center allows more residents to participate, better weather conditions for both the riders and horses, classrooms, the ability to hold equestrian events, and so much more.
Our goal for over 70 years has been to provide great programs and services to our residents. These opportunities aren’t offered in very many other places so we will be able to partner with other agencies, groups, and organizations to provide equine experiences to a larger population in the greater community. We’ve all seen firsthand how therapeutic animals can be for our own residents and we’d love to see that same healing happen with as many people as possible.
Becca McPherson, Vice President of Development
Since its inception in 2006, staff have been trying to manage horses in stables originally designed for miniature horses, fields unable to accommodate residents with mobility issues, and mounting maintenance needs. This new facility allows for a whole new level of riding, learning, and partnering with others in the community with special needs.
The new riding ranch has already brought a higher level of success to our residents by giving them a facility that gives them a better learning environment. Residents work on their skills in a much more compatible environment, and it allows riders more opportunities to keep progressing forward. The new facility will also give us the opportunity to have more residents participate in equine therapy.
- Shonda Corn, Equine Coordinator
In 2024, Marbridge hosted our first ever Hippotherapy session with residents from The Villa. Villa residents participate each Friday with members our Physical Therapy and Equine Therapy teams. This wouldn’t be possible without the Creed Ford III Therapeutic Riding Ranch at Marbridge.
2025 also saw a first for the new arena as Marbridge hosted our first ever Special Olympics of Texas Regional Equestrian competition. Two other organizations competed alongside Marbridge riders in the first event with riders from the greater Austin community. The competition was the first of many future events expected to be held in the Creed Ford III Therapeutic Riding Ranch at Marbridge.
