Equine Instructor Part Time
We currently have opportunities for an Equine Instructor at our Assisted Living Community located in Manchaca, TX (just south of Austin).
This role is responsible for instructing equestrian classes in our Creed Ford III Equestrian Riding Center also known as C3. Responsibilities include grooming, equine riding, and Special Olympic equine following the protocols outlined in the Creed Ford III Equestrian Riding Center policy and procedure manual. Ensures that safety is always the priority. Trains new staff and volunteers. Works with the Equine Coordinator to manage the budget and seeks solutions to budget concerns. Provides guidance and insight for policies/procedures, horse health concerns, staff/volunteer concerns, and the equine program in general.

Part-Time Shift:
- Part-time: Monday-Thursday: 8:00am-3:30pm
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and maintain an effective curriculum for various equine classes
- Classes are for the enjoyment of the residents and should challenge them and encourage them to try new things. The training program is based on the Theory of Multiple Intelligences. Our goal is for our residents to learn, experience, and achieve.
- Provide input on resident’s progress in class including weekly attendance logs, updates during weekly T&E staff meetings, entries in Life Loop and Point Click Care database and direct feedback to the Director of T&E and the community directors and assistance directors when appropriate.
- Supervise residents in all class activities. This includes on and off campus activities. Handle minor behavioral problems and report any problems to the Director of Training & Education immediately.
- Begin all classes on time and avoid early dismissal unless approved by the Director of Training & Education ahead of time.
- Assist and encourage residents to improve socially, physically, emotionally, and cognitively. Provide feedback for residents Individual Program Plan (IPP) process.
- Assist the equine coordinator with creating and updating policies and procedures for the equine center.
- Assist with training new staff and volunteers, ensuring safety of the residents, staff/volunteer, and horses is prioritized.
- Track the annual, monthly, and weekly budget for the equine center and program. Find solutions to unnecessary expenditures, receive bids from multiple vendors to find the best, most cost efficient option, work closely with the grant writer to discuss needs
- Inventory all C3 supplies
- Fill in for the equine coordinator when they are absent
- Triage injured or ill horses to determine best course of action. Contact vet as needed.
- Administer medication and provide wound care as needed
- Assist with C3 upkeeping, ensuring it is kept neat and organized
- Attend and participate in weekly team meetings.
- Perform similar duties as assigned
