Overnight Summer Camp Counselor (Seasonal)

Summer Camp Counselors Ad:

The Marbridge Foundation is currently hiring for temporary summer camp counselors to supervise and support a rotating group of adults with intellectual disabilities as they get to experience what life at Marbridge is really like! This role will be involved with residents for various activities during the week.

Shift Information
All of our camp counselor roles are full-time, 40 hours a week with a set schedule.

  • 10:00pm- 6:00am (Sunday-Thursday) *This shift is an awake shift*

Training for Summer camp begins the week of June 3rd. Summer camp runs from June 9th through July 26th with the week of July 4th off.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identify and meet campers needs, including learning the likes /dislikes of each participant
  • Recognize and respond to opportunities for problem solving in the group
  • Develop opportunities for the group so that each attendee has a successful and positive experience during camp
  • Provide opportunities for discussion of individual or group problems or concerns
  • Help each summer camper meet the goals established by the camp for their development
  • Keep camp supplies and equipment in good shape, including putting them away when finishing with a project
  • Set a good example for campers and others including cleanliness, punctuality, sharing, clean-up, and chores, sportsmanship, and table manners.
  • Observe each camper daily and check for cuts, bruises, skin rash, or other indication of illness or injury
  • Distribute prescription medication packets at prescribed times
  • Ensures that medication is properly dispensed and taken

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Encourage respect for personal property, camp equipment, and facilities
  • Maintain good public relations with summer camper’s parents/families
  • Must be CPR and First Aide certified (training will be provided)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • At least one year’s experience working with youth or adults with intellectual disabilities preferred
  • Must be 18 years of age, minimum age of 21 for driving
  • Emotionally mature, good moral character, good sense of humor, and strong integrity
  • Enjoyment of the outdoors
  • If driving: must have a clear driving record with a valid Texas Driver’s License

WORKING CONDITIONS

Will work in a summer camp home environment, inside classrooms, outdoor settings, swimming pool, with horses and may involve taking the campers into the community.
