Director of Nursing

Location: Manchaca, TX (just south of Austin)

We currently have an opportunity for a Director of Nursing,  RN, at our 92-bed facility, located in Manchaca, TX (just south of Austin). We have a 92 bed facility and primarily serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are one of just a handful of Skilled Nursing Facilities in the United States that specializes in a special needs population, and have a Five-Star Quality Rating through the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.

The Director of Nursing assumes authority, responsibility, and accountability for the delivery of nursing services in the facility. In collaboration with facility Administration, the DON allocates department resources in an efficient and economic manner to enable each resident to attain or maintain the highest practical physical, mental, and psycho-social well-being of our residents. The Director of Nursing collaborates with other departments, medical professionals, consultants, and organizations, including government agencies and advocacy groups, to develop, support and coordinate resident care, related administrative functions, and to represent the interests of the facility.

Direct of Nursing responsibilities include:

  • Develop and maintain nursing service objectives, standards of nursing practice, and the application of nursing policies and procedures
  • In coordination with the Director, decide the appropriateness of placement of new residents
  • Coordinate interdisciplinary care plans to address highest level of care and services to each resident
  • Hire and retain staff as necessary to meet population needs
  • Manage staff hours and purchase costs efficiently
  • Monitor quality indicator reports and validate accuracy of data
  • Monitor residents’ conditions through department reports and systems for quality outcomes
  • Develop and implement action plans
  • Assign duties and coordinate nursing service
  • Assure ongoing department compliance with appropriate Federal and State regulations, and company policies and procedures
  • Evaluate nursing activities to ensure resident care, staff relations, and efficiency of service
  • Observe nursing care and visit residents to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed; work with Physician in accordance with Physician’s instructions, administers treatment
  • Direct preparation and maintenance of resident’s clinical records
  • Keep informed of special orders pertaining to residents
  • Participate in orientation and training of personnel
  • Order, or direct ordering of, supplies and equipment, to facilitate care
  • Investigate and resolve complaints or incidents, and/or refer unusual problems to Administrator
  • Ensure that Administrator is kept informed on service outcomes to residents
  • Supervise and evaluate implementation of the “Resident’s Rights”
  • Participate and attend periodic in-service and staff meetings

Education, Experience, & Skills Required:

  • Must possess a current Texas license as a Registered Nurse and have graduated from an accredited school of nursing
  • Two years of professional nursing experience in a long-term care setting is required
  • Minimum of three years experience in nursing administration or a comparable management position
  • Must possess and demonstrate a high degree of leadership, organizational ability, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of long-term care management, policies, budgeting, personnel management, and census development is required.
  • CPR Certification
