The Marbridge Equestrian team competed at the 2020 Top Hands Horse Show in Houston on February 21 & 22. The Top Hands Horse Show, held in the NRG Arena, is an official event of the Houston Rodeo.
Twenty one riders represented Marbridge competing against 22 other teams in Trail and Wester Equitation events.
“Trail is an obstacle course for the horse and rider and provides a reasonable, fair test of skill levels,” said Jana Kay Green, Director of Training and Education. “Riders are judged on performing the course in sequence and demonstrating that they are initiating all steering and basic control of the horse.”
Western Equitation riders are judged differently. They are score on hand positions, seat placement, and their communication skills with the horse including walking, halts, transitions, and more.
Marbridge had six first place riders and a total of 22 top three finishes. This year’s competition was tough but Marbridge didn’t have a rider finish outside of the top nine.
Competing in the Top Hands Horse Show, and all of our upcoming events, wouldn’t be possible without the training of Head Coach Shonda Corn, and assistant coaches Bianca Nguyen and Steven Jass. It also takes an amazing group of volunteers to make events like these succeed.
Marbridge would like to thank Laurie Duran, Rachel Collins, Terri Mantia, Cheryl Alexander, Kathy Slater, Connie Nicholson, Molly Banner, Sophie Shelbourne, Sue Royal, Kevin Lawson, Janet Andrews, Joe Andrews, and staff support from Jeff Hess and Jana Kay Green.
