Marbridge to Host 7th Annual World of Opportunities Expo
Free expo for families focusing on next steps in parenting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
AUSTIN, TEXAS: Saturday, September 15 marks Marbridge’s 7th Annual World of Opportunities Expo: Oh! The places you’ll go when you learn, live, and grow. The Expo will be from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and will provide vital resources from industry experts to parents and referral sources, such as schools, about effectively advocating on behalf of their loved ones with special needs.
“This year’s theme highlights the importance of choosing the appropriate transitional steps for parents of special needs children,” says Jenna Hudson, Director of Admissions. “Topics will cover guardianship, how to transition a special needs child out of the home, and important life skills needed for that transition.”
Keynote speaker Lamarque Polvado will speak on finding resources for you loved ones with special needs and will introduce his new CareStarter app. After Polvado’s life was changed when his daughter was diagnosed with Autism, he decided to found a nonprofit whose mission is to build the Special Care Industry. The CareStarter app is an organized collective of providers, educators, lawyers, policy makers, advocates, and all others involved in the care of children with special healthcare needs.
This annual event brings together leadership, along with organizations and professionals in the field of intellectual disability, including Autism, Down Syndrome, Williams Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, seizure disorder, and traumatic brain injury. Vendors will include psychologists, behavioral specialists, vocational services, day programming, special needs camps, activities, residential communities, and more.
“It’s never too soon to prepare for the future of your loved one with intellectual & developmental disabilities. The Marbridge World of Opportunities Expo allows families and caregivers to connect with industry professionals, and starts conversations about planning for that future,” said James Stacey, CEO of Marbridge.
The World of Opportunities Expo is a free event for family members, caregivers, and professionals to learn from each other as they continue their unique journeys caring for a child with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
The Expo is free to attend, please RSVP to Jenna Hudson, Director of Admissions: 512.735.2704; [email protected]. Vendor booth space is limited, contact Jenna Hudson, Director of Admissions, to reserve your space: 512.735.2704; [email protected].
