Marbridge Villa

Location: Manchaca, TX (just south of Austin)

Marbridge is seeking an Activities Assistant to help with daily activities designed to enhance the quality of life for the residents being served. At the Marbridge Villa, the Activities Assistant has special abilities and talents in caring for, entertaining, and assisting with the daily leisure needs of the facility. This population makes working at the Villa a much different experience than working at any other nursing facility in the greater Austin area – in the U.S. there are only a handful of nursing facilities that cater primarily to a special needs population. There is a wide range in the levels of independence among Villa residents, with some requiring almost total assistance, and some practicing modified independence. The Villa boasts a Five Star Rating through the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a distinction pertaining to the quality of resident care that only 10% of skilled nursing facilities achieve!

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Under the clinical supervision of an appropriate supervisor, assists with planning, implementing, and facilitating activities to improve the quality of life for the social, emotional, physical, cognitive, spiritual, and other therapeutic needs of the residents
  • Observes and documents responses to interventions
  • Maintains detailed records of activity programs and participation levels of individual residents, identifying progress towards established care plan goals
  • Contributes and participates in resident care planning by identifying the activity needs of residents in accordance with the medical assessment
  • Conducts resident activity histories and assessments required by state and federal standards as assigned
  • Implements 1:1 and small group activities
  • Adapts and modifies activities to meet specific needs of the residents
  • Assists with the development and planning process in order to publish and distribute a monthly calendar of events
  • Participates in the supervision of volunteers as assigned
  • Participates in staff meetings and projects as assigned
  • Performs work in accordance with the facility standards and policies regarding risk management, safety, infection control, etc
  • Transports and escorts residents to appropriate activities
  • Drives the community vehicle to various community outings

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Certified Nurse Assistant under nursing aide program and continuous recertification
  • Excellent creative and communication skills
  • Ability to organize, document, and implement detailed programs
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with high level of energy and enthusiasm
  • Ability to perform work tasks with the physical demand requirements as outlined below
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and handicapped people
  • Ability to comply with the Patient Bill of Rights and the Employee Responsibilities
  • Ability to comply with departmental safety policies and procedures

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / DEMANDS:

Requires lifting, bending, stooping, reaching and standing for extended periods of time, Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and vision, must be able to work 75% indoors and 25% outdoors.
